It is a legal document that translates your domestic driver’s license into a several different languages. It acts as a supplement to—not a replacement for—your original license. You must carry both when driving abroad.
Two main reasons:
1 Legal Requirement: Many countries (like Japan or South Korea) legally require it for foreign drivers.
2 Rental Agencies: Even if the country doesn't legally require it, many car rental companies (like Avis or Europcar) will refuse to hand over the keys without one.
You can apply online using the following link E-IDP
* 1949 Convention: Valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
* 1968 Convention: Valid for up to 3 years (or until your domestic license expires).
